Pastor Alan Ritter has served as senior pastor of First Baptist Church Homosassa since May of 2001. Before coming to First Baptist he had the privilege of pastoring his home church, North Graham Baptist, Graham NC., for five years. After receiving his call to the ministry at age 30, Pastor Alan graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with an Associates of Divinity in 1996 under President Paige Patterson.
He and his wife, Joyce, married in 1983 shortly after he completed USMC boot camp at Parris Island, SC. He joined the USMC immediately after graduating high school and was active duty serving as a UH1N and AH1T & J Attack Helicopter plane captain for four years. He and Joyce have three daughters, Jennifer, Regina and Skylar, all of whom are grown and have six children between them.
Pastor Alan enjoys attending high school sports with his grandchildren and the men of the church. When he finds time he enjoys playing golf with the men of the church as well. He also enjoys playing basketball and other sports/games with the grandkids.
Pastor Alan combines sound biblical preaching with modern-day application as he encourages those in the congregation to join him in becoming a student of God’s Word. He says, “Our world has too much superficiality in it without the church adding to it. For this reason we must become students of the Word in order to be effective as ambassadors of Christ.”
Pastor Alan has practically adopted the Book of Proverbs as his daily nutritional guide for right-living. If he were to list his life verse it would be, Isaiah 26:3, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because He trusteth in thee.” He also has a special liking to the practicality of Proverbs 13:20, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed."
Mike Barber has served as Minister of Music of First Baptist Church Homosassa since November of 2012. He has served as Minister of Music and Associate Pastor at churches in Florida, Mississippi and Georgia. Mike holds a Bachelor in Music from Baptist College of Florida and a Master of Arts in Worship Ministries from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Jeannie, married in 1993 and they have one daughter, Michaela. Mike is a native Floridian from Spring Hill. Mike's life verse is Romans 12:11. Mike defines worship as "Loving God and living a holy life."
Born in north Georgia, Troy Allen was abducted to the frozen north of Massachusetts where he he vowed to someday return to the beautiful south. He moved to Florida in 1991 shortly after marrying the lady of his dreams, Stacey. There God gifted him with a full quiver of awesome kids, Anastasia, Logan, Luke and Eve. It is a well known fact that his kids first initial spells out his last name minus one. Faced with the prospect of providing an "N" he adopted a dog and named him Nibbles.
In 1996 a friend took him to a Promise Keepers event. It was there that he was saved by faith and has been developing his relationship with God ever since.
Several years later God called him to work with the children and youth at FBC Homosassa. He has taught Sunday School, ministered as a Deacon and served 14 years as Commander of our AWANA program. A few years back an opportunity to serve as Director of Student Ministries was extended. He accepted but prefers to be called "the youth group guy" as you can get away will all sorts of nonsense that way.
Ever praying to always be young at heart, all the while growing mature in Christ. His life verse is...
1 Corinthians 9:26-27
I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
So fight I.
